MOBILE, Ala. – Led by Will Davis' Top-25 finish, Davidson opened its 2023 Spring Season with an eighth-place finish at The Hal Williams Collegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The two-day/54-hole event, which featured three nationally ranked teams, was played on the Par 71, 7,168-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings layout.
Davis, the 2022 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, finished with a final-round one-under 70, his second of the tournament, to sign for an even-par 213.
Brian Garrett (215 | +2) was just as steady for the Wildcats finishing two strokes back of his teammate, while Alex Heffner (216 | +3) and Joshua Stewart (216 | +3) came home tied for 44th. Like Davis, Stewart carded a one-under 70 Tuesday.
Coming off a four-under 280 in its second round, Davidson posted a 285 this afternoon to finish one back of Kent State (+2) and just eight shots outside the Top-5.
Another bright spot for the 'Cats was individual competitor Adam Lauer, who shot an even-par 71 in his final round.
No. 5 Illinois led wire-to-wire claiming the team title by 13 strokes over Arkansas.
The Razorbacks' Mateo Fernandez De Oliveira fired his third sub-par round of the event, a final-round 65 to capture individual medalist.
