Smith Breaks Meet Record at JDL

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Hurdler Jayden Smith began his junior campaign by taking first and breaking the meet record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-Off on Saturday.
The Richmond, Va. native started the day by first breaking the meet record in the prelims with a qualifying time of 7.87 seconds. He followed up that performance with a time of 7.83 in the finals to take first place. With his time Saturday, the back-to-back Atlantic 10 60H Champion ranks third-fastest across NCAA Division I after the first week of the indoor season.
In sprints, Chinedu Okeke nearly broke a school record after he went sub-seven-seconds in the 60-meter dash. The Bronx native ran a 6.97 which was 10th fastest in qualifying.
Junior Jack Stajos took sixth in the shot put after his longest toss went for 14.78 meters.
Up Next
The men's track & field team will be back in action after the New Year when the Wildcats travel to South Carolina's Carolina Challenge on January 19-20.
