'Cats to Compete at U.S. Open, Bucknell Invitational

11/29/2023 4:36:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving, Swimming & Diving

As November gives way to December, the Toyota U.S. Open and the Bucknell Invitational highlight a busy week for the Davidson swimming and diving teams.

The action begins Thursday when sophomore swimmer Dylan Felt competes at the U.S. Open in Greensboro. Felt will be vying for his fourth U.S. Olympic Trials cut, this time competing in the 400-meter freestyle after earning cuts in the 200-, 800- and 1,500-meter freestyles in July. Felt will swim the 400 in the 9 a.m. session Thursday and needs a time of 3:55.59 to make the cut.

Felt will then join his teammates in Lewisburg, Pa., for the three-day Bucknell Invitational. The seven-team event, featuring morning prelims and afternoon finals each day, is essentially the Wildcats' fall semester championship.

Last year at Bucknell, the Davidson men took third in the team standings, while the Wildcat women were sixth. Felt won the 200 free, 500 free and 1,650 free, and diver James Gourlay swept the one-meter and three-meter competitions.

Joining the Wildcats and host Bison at Bucknell will be competitors from Bloomsburg, Fordham, Johns Hopkins, UMBC and UConn (women only).

Prelims are set for 10 a.m. each day, with finals at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• The Wildcats most recently competed on Nov. 4 against Old Dominion. That day, Davidson won 18 events and swept the team wins by 152-53 (women) and 118-87 (men) margins.
• Wildcats Anna Newman, Sylvia Stewart-Bates, Martha Tripsa and Felt won multiple events.
• After competing at Bucknell, the Wildcats' next team event will be Saturday, Jan. 13 at UNCW.
