'Cats Back in Action at Duke Thursday

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson College women's basketball team resumes its non-conference slate with the final of three Atlantic Coast Conference opponents Thursday at Duke for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

SERIES HISTORY...
The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 5-1 over the 'Cats. The two squads most recently met Nov. 12, 2022 in John M. Belk Arena where Duke defeated Davidson 60-37.

Chloe Welch led the Wildcats with 12 points and seven rebounds while Suzi-Rose Deegan chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds. Elle Sutphin rounded out the games leaders for the 'Cats with nine points and six rebounds.

LAST TIME OUT...
Davidson had a full weekend of ACC opponents as it picked up its first win over Wake Forest since 1998 on 11/11 by way of 57-52 victory. Following the win, the Wildcats fought to a narrow 74-70 loss at UNC 11/12.

WEEKEND RECAP... 
Davidson moved to 2-0 on their home court with a big win over ACC opponent Wake Forest Nov. 11. The Wildcats knocked off the Demon Deacons 57-52 in John M. Belk Arena for the first win over Wake since 1998. The 'Cats were led by Elle Sutphin (18 points, 6 rebounds) and Charlise Dunn (12 points, 9 rebounds) who combined for 30 of Davidson's points and both went 100 percent from the foul line. 

The following day, the Wildcats traveled to Chapel Hill for their second ACC match up of three where they battled to a narrow 74-70 loss to the Tar Heels. Three players ended the night in double-digit scoring in Dunn (21 points), Sutphin (17 points) and Millie Prior (20 points). Dunn and Prior were just shy of double-doubles with eight rebounds each. 

IN THE A-10 AS A TEAM...
The Wildcats' debut proved to be a strong one as they enter the week among the leaders in the Atlantic 10 conference in numerous areas: 

- 3rd FT% : .800
- 4th Blocks: 4.4 per game
- 4th Steals: 11.0 per game
- 5th OPP Scoring: 59.0 ppg
- 6th Scoring Margin: +12
- 7th FG% : .426

INDIVIDUAL A-10 LEADERS... 
Very early in the season, four Wildcats are within the top 10 players in the A-10 in at least one category. 

Charlise Dunn: 1st Points (50), 5th Scoring (16.7)
Elle Sutphin: 2nd Points (49), 6th Scoring (16.3)
Millie Prior: 4th FG% (.667), 6th Steals (2.7)
Issy Morgan: 6th FG% (.600), 6th Assist/Turnover Ratio (2.8)

ROUNDING OUT THE 'CATS...
An additional leader for the Wildcats entering the second week of the season is Suzi-Rose Deegan with per game averages of 9.3 ppg, 3.3 apg, 2.3 rpg over three starts. Maddie Plank is a key component to the Davidson offense having averaged 4.0 rpg including 2.7 offensive boards a contest. 

Freshmen Katie Donovan has seen time in all three games for Davidson while fellow freshmen Slyvie Jackson and Chloe Oliver have each mad an appearance in at least one game.

LAST TIME OUT... 
Duke holds a solid 3-0 mark having defeated Richmond 83-53, Coastal Carolina 88-42 and most recently Columbia 66-62. The Blue Devils also incorporated an exhibition againt the USA Women's National Team last Sunday where they were defeated 87-58 on their home court.

Leading the Duke offense is Reigan Richardson with 14.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.7 apg and 1.3 spg. Following is Taina Mair with 11.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.3 spg. Rounding out players with double-digit scoring averages are Ashlon Jackson (10.3 ppg), Oluchi Okananwa (10.3 ppg) and Kennedy Brown (10.0 ppg).

Kennedy Brown and Ashlon Jackson are the only players on Dukes current roster to have played in the most recent meeting between the Blue Devils and Wildcats a season ago. Brown finished with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block while Jackson tallied three assists.

UP NEXT... 
Davidson will have a quick turnaround when it travels to Baltimore, Md for a non-conference match up against Morgan State University 2 p.m. Saturday.
