Three 'Cats Place at Mountaineer Invitational

BOONE, N.C. – Three Wildcats placed in the Open Division at the App State Mountaineer Invitational on Saturday. Senior Dan Yetsick led the way by taking first-place in the 157-pound weight class, freshman Brock Carey took second at 149, and freshman John Hager finished third at 133 pounds.
Yetsick, a senior from Ambridge, Pennsylvania drew a first-round bye before defeating Gardner-Webb's Hunter Jones with a pin in less than a minute. In the final, Yetsick edged Lander's Jack Tangen in a 2-0 decision after recording an escape in the second period and picking up the riding time point.
At 149 pounds, Brock Carey nearly went the distance after a first-round bye then followed that with a win over Lander's Randy Meyers. Carey found himself behind when Meyers picked up six early points in the first period. The Newton, North Carolina native came back strong with an escape and a reversal before eventually securing a pin at the 4:22 mark. In the semifinals, Carey came back again against Virginia's Luca Errico. The first-year man was down 7-0 in the first period before getting an escape, a takedown, and a pin all in a span of a minute and a half. Carey pinned Errico at 2:19 to head to the finals. In the final, Carey fell after getting an early takedown, but he was pinned by North Carolina's Will Guida to earn second place.
Rounding out Davidson's placements was John Hager who took third place. Hager also drew a first-round bye before cruising to an 11-0 major decision over UNC's Max Martin. Hager, a native of Randolph, New Jersey fell in the semifinals but fought his way back to the third-place match. Hager won by pin to make it to the third-place match where he then defeated Gardner-Webb's Charlie Sly with a pin just before the four-minute mark.
