DAVIDSON, N.C. – Denis Krioutchenkov scored a pair of goals, including one in dramatic fashion as time expired, to lift Davidson over Virginia Tech, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
Winners of three straight and unbeaten in five of their last six, the Wildcats improve to 4-5-1 overall, while dropping the Hokies to 1-7-1.
Krioutchenkov, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, broke a level match in the 33rd minute when he beat his defender down the sideline, cut back and ripped a low shot inside the far post for the eventual game-winner.
With two seconds remaining, the freshman saved his best for last, getting past the Virginia Tech backline once again and finding the back of the net as time expired, for his team-leading sixth goal of his freshman campaign.
At the 12:04 mark, Trey Gardiner gave the 'Cats the early advantage when the junior put away a Jack Brown corner for the second score of his career.
Not long after, Virginia Tech scored an equalizer with a successful penalty kick from Danny Flores following a Davidson handball in the box.
Both teams finished with 13 shots with Davidson holding a 7-5 edge in attempts on frame.
Coming off back-to-back shutouts, Lou Liedtka was impressive in goal again tonight for the Wildcats recording four saves.
