Davis Duo Leads 'Cats Past Dukes

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- With steady serving from Anela Davis and lockdown defense from Kayla Davis, the Davidson Wildcats closed out their A-10 opener on a 12-0 run in the fourth set to defeat the Duquesne Dukes 3-1 on Friday night.
After taking a 2-1 lead in the match, the 'Cats fell behind 17-13 in the fourth as the Dukes threatened to push the first conference game of the season to five sets. A kill from Isabel Decker halted Duquesne's run, allowing Kayla Davis to score three straight points and settle the score at 17-all. With senior Anela Davis at the service line, the Dukes' defense slipped out of system, as the 'Cats connected for three more kills and another three blocks to win the deciding set, 25-17.
Overall, Davidson hit .233 while holding the Dukes to a .031 hitting percentage. Decker ended the night with 14 kills (.294) and Bella Brady picked up 22 digs. Kayla Davis connected for six kills on nine swings (.667) and added one solo block with four assists, adding to Davidson's season-high 15 team blocks. In the first start of her career, freshman Anna Withee also added eight kills.
While the Wildcats hit a game-high .346 in the deciding set, they also swung .333 (13 kills, 3 errors, 30 attempts) in the second, as they cruised to a 25-14 win.
