Wildcats Shift Into A-10 Field Hockey Play Sunday
9/16/2022 10:53:00 AM | Field Hockey
The Davidson field hockey team will begin Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend when it visits Richmond for a Sunday afternoon contest.
The Wildcats are 3-3, and seven of their remaining 13 games will be against A-10 opponents.
"This week, we've talked a lot about how conference play is a new season," said coach Zoe Almquist. "It is a clean slate, one where we can continue to prioritize getting our process right, from our mindset and preparation to our skills and tactics. We're really looking at all the great things we put together so far this season and getting ready to implement them against a known conference opponent. Richmond is always super fun to play — they are fast and technically strong this year, so we can't wait to step out there against them on Sunday."
In league play, the Wildcats will also visit UMass, La Salle and Saint Louis and will host Lock Haven, VCU and Saint Joseph's.
The A-10 appears to be strong again and currently has two teams in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's poll — Saint Joseph's is 13th, and UMass is 20th.
'CATS IN THE STATS
Natalie Naticchia and Anna Sharp lead the Wildcats with three goals apiece, while Charlie Kabelac has two goals.
Sib Naaktgeboren ranks out front in the A-10 with five assists.
Caroline Wack leads the A-10 with two defensive saves.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
Richmond is 3-2 entering Friday's non-conference game at Wake Forest and has wins over Longwood, William & Mary and Towson and losses to Old Dominion and James Madison.
Midfielder Lindsey Frank is a returning A-10 First Team pick from a year ago and leads the Spiders with three goals, three assists and nine points. She was also a preseason all-conference pick this fall, alongside Spiders goalkeeper Erika Latta.
Richmond has won the last seven meetings with Davidson.
