Fowler, Wildcats Beat Wofford for Best-Ever Start

DAVIDSON — Phoebe Fowler's goal with less than nine minutes to play Thursday night was the difference in Davidson's 1-0 win over Wofford in women's soccer at Alumni Stadium.
Fowler's first career goal helped deliver the Wildcats' fourth win of the season and their third straight shutout at home. Now 4-0-1, the Wildcats are off to their best-ever start through five games, surpassing the 3-0-2 start of 2008.
"In the second half, we came out with a little more intensity and a little more urgency in our play," said coach Adam Denton. "I'm proud of the way they battled through. It's another win at home and another clean sheet."
Fowler's goal came after a corner kick by Hailey Braemer and after a touch by Aleia Gisolfi-McCready.
"There were some people challenging near the goal, so I just kind of stood back," said Fowler. "I don't know if it was a pass or a deflection, but it came to me, and I just put it on frame."
Fowler is the fifth Wildcat to score a goal this year, joining Brooke Ditcham, Riley Patton, Lilly Lovell and Charlotte Snead.
As the Wildcats look to continue their best start to a season, the 2000 Wildcats are the next measuring stick. They started 6-1-0 with three wins, a loss and three more wins.
