Ditcham, Wildcats Top Gardner-Webb 2-0

DAVIDSON — Brooke Ditcham entered Thursday night's soccer home opener in the 27th minute and scored 11 seconds later.
Then the junior added another goal five minutes after that to help the Wildcats defeat Gardner-Webb 2-0 and improve to 2-0-1.
"It's just taking the opportunities that you get," said Ditcham. "If you're near the goal, you have to take your shot. You don't get many opportunities, so you have to seize the ones you do get."
Ditcham scored her only other career goal last year against Presbyterian, but by the time she scored left-footed off a Sophia Caruso assist to make it 2-0 Thursday, the Wildcats were well on their way to another win.
"Great opportunity to win in our home opener, score two goals and not concede," said coach Adam Denton. "Two great goals from Brooke Ditcham on a really good night for her."
The Wildcats outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 12-2 in shots-on-goal and finished with an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Davidson defense limited GWU chances throughout, and Mary Grace Bunch made two stops in goal.

The Wildcats will host Furman on Senior Day at 2 p.m. Sunday.
