Wildcats Fire Season-Low, Sit Fourth at Irish Creek

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Highlighted by four subpar rounds in the afternoon, Davidson fired a season-low 273 in its second round to climb into a tie for fourth after day one of the 2022 Irish Creek Collegiate.
Co-hosted by the Wildcats and Charlotte, the two-day/54-hole event is being played at The Club at Irish Creek.
After opening with a three-over 287, Davidson bounced back with an 11-under total to climb four spots up the leaderboard. The Wildcats will enter the final round just two swings behind league foe VCU (-10), which sits third at 558 following a 13-under 271.
In addition to the hosts, the tournament field features Appalachian State, Dartmouth Dayton, East Carolina, Elon, High Point, Jacksonville, James Madison, Lipscomb, Marshall, Ole Miss, Richmond, VCU.
The top spots in the team standings are occupied by Charlotte (-20) and Ole Miss (-17), which started the 12th annual event ranked 27th and 21st in the Golfstat National Rankings, respectively.
The 49ers' Dongjin Park (-10) holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard by three over Ford Goldasich (-7) of Lipscomb.
Thanks to a three-under 68 on his second 18, senior Clayton Tribus leads the Wildcats at 139 (-3) and tied for 16th out of 92 competitors. Teammate Alex Heffner (-2/T-21) is one back of Tribus after recording five birdies and just one bogey in the afternoon and signing for a four-under 67.
Davidson's Ethan Hall (141/T-27) and Will Davis (144/T-45) were just as impressive in their second round with scores of two-under 69.
Viraj Garewal (145/T-52) is also in the Wildcat starting lineup, while Cole Walter (143/T-36), Brian Garrett (146/T-60), Adam Lauer (152/86th) and Dean Naime (153/87th) are competing as individuals.
Sunday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. off the 1st and 10 the tees.
