Heffner T-11th After Day One in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Davidson's Alex Heffner sits T-11th out of 82 competitors at one-under 143 (73-70) following day one of the 2022 UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate.
The two-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 6960-yard Country Club of Landfall Nicklaus layout.
After opening with a 73, the Wildcat sophomore carded five birdies on his afternoon round to climb 11 spots up the leaderboard.
Teammate Will Davis, who is competing as an individual, is also in the Top-20 following steady rounds of 72 and 73.
Viraj Garewal (+7), Clayton Tribus (+7), Ethan Hall (+17) and Brian Garrett (+22) round out Davidson's starting lineup.
UNCW (-11) carded a pair of rounds under par and leads the 14-team field by 12 over VCU (+1).
Francis Marion's Mitchell Vance (-7) has a one-shot advantage over Tyler Goecke of Wright State and the Seahawks' Walker Isley.
Davidson, which sits at 606 (+30) as a team, will enter the final round just seven shots outside the Top-10.
The last 18 holes will begin Monday morning with an 8:30 shotgun start.
