Francis, Stanley Lead 'Cats in Final Pre-Conference Meet

WILMINGTON — Shelby Stanley and Abby Francis won two events apiece to lead Davidson in the water against UNCW Friday and Saturday in the Wildcats' final pre-championship competition.

Stanley, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, and Francis paced the Wildcat women, who fell 177-123 in the team scores. UNCW earned a 218-79 win in the men's meet.

Stanley swam out front in the 100 fly (55.72) and 200 fly (2:03.35), while Francis won the 100 free (52.53) and 200 IM (2:06.33).

Additionally, Julia Goodhead won the 100 back in 57.82, and the Wildcats went 1-2 in two women's events. Anna Newman took the 100 breast in 1:05.61, with Hannah Gould right behind her (1:06.13), while Anna Jepson won 1M diving (271.65), with teammate Annica Valmassei second (252.60).

The Davidson men won two events. Jeremy Kemp was first in the 200 back (1:51.47), and Ben McClain, the A-10 Performer of the Week, won the 500 free (4:38.92).

Divers competed Friday in Davidson's Cannon Pool, with the majority of the meet held at UNCW Saturday.
