SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Davidson struggled to find an offensive rhythm on Saturday night, shooting 30.9 percent from the floor in a 54-51 loss to the Saint Louis Billikens.
Chloe Welch recorded the fourth double-double of her career (11 points, 10 rebounds), as Davidson drops to 13-11 on the year and 4-8 in Atlantic 10 play.
Overall, the Billikens ousted the Wildcats in rebounding, 48-33, and finished with a 15-20 effort from the free throw line. The Wildcats ended the night with 17 assists, just one shy of their season best.
The Wildcats held the lead for much of the first half and went into the second with a 22-20 advantage. The Billikens found their footing in half two however, shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and out scoring Davidson 34-29.
Saint Louis jumped out on a 8-0 run to begin the final half, and took back the lead, 28-22 for the first time since the opening basket. Although the Wildcats kept the game at bay, thanks to timely baskets from Issy Morgan and Sarah Konstans, the Billikens held onto a two-point lead with 10 minutes left to play.
With a 50 percent shooting effort in the fourth, the Billikens built their largest lead of the day, 51-44, with 1:21 left to play. Konstans and Welch came up with back-to-back 3-pointers that cut the deficit to one, 51-50, but three made free throws down the stretch put the home team back in front for good.
