Gourlay Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson diver James Gourlay is this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Gourlay is coming off a weekend sweep at the Bucknell Invitational. Competing in an eight-team meet, Gourlay won the 3-meter competition on Friday, then won the 1M on Saturday.

"James has a passion to perform, and I think that's what carried him to the top," said Davidson diving coach Greg Ferrucci. "He didn't miss a single dive and made improvements on multiple dives under the pressure of a final at a big invitational."

Competing against 14 other divers, Gourlay won the 3M with 294.00 points and the 1M with a score of 273.55.

Tuesday's award is the first of Gourlay's college career. He's the fifth Wildcat honored this season, following Dylan Felt (men's Rookie Oct. 5, Oct. 31), Shelby Stanley (women's Performer, Oct. 31), Liam McDonough (men's Rookie, Nov. 8) and Leah Sandock (women's Rookie, Nov. 8).
