Whitworth Leads Wildcats to 5th Place Finish at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Highlighted by Frances Whitworth's 14th place finish, the Davidson women's cross-country team came home fifth Friday afternoon at the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens University.
 
A junior from nearby Winston-Salem, N.C., Whitworth ran the 5k course in 18:12.1, posting the 10th best time of competitors counting towards the team's final total.
 
In a field that featured 27 teams and 269 runners, Davidson finished with 152 points, just eight back of fourth place South Carolina.
 
Freshman Tate Arrington was the next Wildcat to cross the finish line, placing 59th with a time of 19:07.1, while Abigail Nasse finished just under two seconds back of her teammate to conclude the annual event 64th
 
Emily Henkel (19:16.2 | 73rd), Molly Sullivan (19:20.7 | 81st) and Anna Catherine Wilson (19:21.8 | 83rd) also competed for the 'Cats.
 
Silan Ayyildiz (unattached) was the top individual finisher running in 16:49.1, while Queens' Letizia Martinelli had the fastest time among collegiate runners.
 
Milligan totaled 75 points to claim the team title by just eight over the Royals. 
 
Up Next
Davidson will enjoy a three-week break before heading to Mechanicsville, Va., for the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championships.
