'Cats Just Five Back Entering Final Day of Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Highlighted by four sub-par rounds on the day, Davidson sits in fourth place, just five strokes off the lead, following day one of the 2022 Furman Intercollegiate.
The two-day / 54-hole event is being played on the Par 71, 7,005-yard Furman Golf Course.
After opening with a three-over 287, the Wildcats signed for a one-under 283 in the afternoon to put themselves in contention.
Alex Heffner, who sits in 11th place, leads Davidson on the individual leaderboard at two-under 140 following rounds of 68 and 72.
Senior Brian Garrett (142 / T-14) was just as steady for the Wildcats opening with a season-low 69 before shooting 73 on his second 18 holes.
Will Davis (145 / T-28) and Joshua Stewart (146 / T-35) were the low Davidson players in round two, firing rounds of two-under 69. Ethan Hall sits in the middle of the tightly contested leaderboard after a pair of 74s.
Chattanooga (-3), which posted a tournament-low 277 in the second round, holds the top spot on the team leaderboard by two over James Madison and is three clear of the host Paladins. The Wildcats (+2) and Virginia Tech (+3) round out the Top-5.
Just 13 strokes separate the Mocs and seventh place.
Daniel Cheng of James Madison will enter Sunday's final round as the individual leader, just one ahead of nationally-ranked Will Morlan (Furman).
