DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson's Trey Gardiner scored off a header late in the second half as the Wildcats and Furman Paladins played to a 1-1 draw in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
With the tie, the 'Cats go to 4-7-3 overall, while their former SoCon rival moves to 5-3-4.
Furman wasted little time grabbing the lead as Lloyd Wamu Snell connected with Dylan Lane, who scored 5:46 into the match.
Davidson's Blake Peterson had a pair of scoring chances late in the first half to even the score, but was unable to capitalize. His first attempt after just coming on hit the cross bar, followed by a low strike that missed just wide.
Freshman Denis Krioutchenkov also had a right-footed blast carom off the frame before Gardiner provided the much-needed equalizer in the 70th minute off a Jack Brown set piece.
Davidson finished with a commanding 18-10 advantage in shots, including a 12-1 margin after intermission.
The Wildcats put 10 attempts on target, forcing the Paladins' Ben Roberts to make nine saves. Giacomo Piccardo recorded four stops for the 'Cats.
