Six Wins Highlight 'Cats Showing at Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. - Davidson track and field captured six wins at the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason on Saturday. The 'Cats dominated in the 200-meter dash, placing first in both the men's and women's races.

Josh Hardin and Kierra Marshall ran times of 22.84 and 25.55 respectively to earn the first place spot. Jayden Smith finished in third with a time of 22.95. On the women's side, Kate Carnevale finished in eighth and Cassandra Blau finished in 14th. 

After the prelims of the men's 60H, things were looking good for the 'Cats with five of the eight spots in the finals taken by Davidson scholar-athletes. Jayden Smith (8.11) and Bryce Anthony (8.27) went one and two in the finals with Isaac Bynum in fifth and Jordan Benson in seventh. 

Double-sport athlete Aleia Grisolfi-McCready won her first event of the season, grabbing the top spot in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:16.48. Anna Davis finished just shy of the podium in fourth and Sophia Hood came in ninth. In the 400-meter dash, Marquia Humphries ran a 59.22 to secure second place and Nella Tsudis's time of 1:02.66 rounded out the top eight finishers. 

As for field events, Hannah Janjian and Riley Dodd finished fourth and fifth in the high jump and Megan Burkholder tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.62m (11' 10.5"). 

On the men's side of things, Joe dos Reis captured his first win of the indoor season in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.98. The 4x400 team of Bryce Anthony, Josh Hardin, Isaac Bynum and Cory Gaither snagged the top spot in 3:23.90, just .01 of a second ahead of the team from UMBC. 

Owen Lekki finished second in the mile run and Amit Markos took third place in the 500-meter dash. On the field, Jordan Benson took third in the high jump with a 1.94m mark (6' 4.25").

The track and field team will head back to Winston-Salem, N.C. next weekend for the Camel City Invitational, held from Feb. 4-5.
