Wildcats Tune Up in Fall Opener at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Davidson women's tennis team tuned up in its fall opener this past weekend, taking on Campbell University, App State and host Charleston Southern in a round-robin quad-match.
In the two-day open, the 'Cats had strong singles showings from their freshmen, Daniela Porges and Linden Patterson, who combined for three victories and competed together on the doubles courts.
On Friday, Patterson snagged her first fall victory with a 6-1, 6-3 victory from No. 5 against App State, while Porges earned a 6-1, 6-1 win from No. 6 against CSU later in the day. Patterson secured her second win of the weekend in a three-set battle against Campbell from court four on Saturday. After falling behind 2-6 in the first, the rookie bounced back with convincing second and third set, 7-5, 10-6, victories to earn the No. 4 victory.
Junior Franny Shea earned a No. 4 win for herself from the singles courts as well, picking up a 6-3, 6-1 victory on Friday against Charleston Southern. Elizabeth Truluck closed out the weekend successes for the Wildcats on Saturday, combining with Mira Gladstone at No. 1 for a 6-4 doubles win over App State along with a court one 7-6 (5), 6-3 singles win against Campbell.
The Wildcats will be back in action on October 8, to compete in a three-day weekend at Georgia Southern.
