DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson's Viraj Garewal and Alex Heffner each recorded Top-10 finishes to lead the host Wildcats to a third-place showing at the 2021 River Run Collegiate Tuesday.
After opening with a pair of even par rounds yesterday, Garewal, a 2021 all-conference performer, signed for a two-over 74 on the final day to finish in 218 (+2). Heffner was just as steady for Davidson in its fall opener, shooting an even-par 72 today after consecutive 73s.
Playing in his first collegiate event, freshman Will Davis (221 | T-16) also recorded a Top-20 showing for the 'Cats.
Davidson's "B-Team", which finished the 16-team field seventh, was led by senior Cole Walter, who posted a career-low 54-hole total of 222 (77-69-76) to come home tied for 19th.
Charlotte (-15) led wire-to-wire and captured the team title by 31 strokes over Marshall, which was two clear of the Wildcats and Radford Highlanders.
Overnight-leader Matt Sharpstene (-9), rallied from two shots back over his final three holes to claim individual medalist over his teammate Ben Woodruff (-8). Sharpstene birdied the difficult Par 4 16th hole before rolling in a 20-foot eagle on the last.
