‘Cats Tied for Second After Day One of Home Event

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Paced by a veteran and a newcomer, the Davidson men's golf team sits tied for second after 36 holes of the 2021 River Run Collegiate.
Senior Viraj Garewal (72-72) and freshman Will Davis (73-71) are tied for 10th individually at even-par 144, while the host Wildcats and Marshall will enter Tuesday's final round 15 back of Charlotte (-7).
Garewal, an all-conference performer a year ago, finished the day with seven birdies and an eagle.
Playing in his first collegiate event, Davis was solid for the 'Cats with five birdies over his two rounds.
Sophomore Alex Heffner is two back of his teammates and in a tie for 17th following a pair of one-over 73s.
Radford (+9), which fired an impressive eight-under 280 in round two, and George Mason, round out the Top-5 on the team leaderboard.
Led by senior Cole Walter's (77-69) career-low three-under 69, Davidson's "B-Team" carded a second-round 290 (+2) to move into seventh place.
The 49ers' Matt Sharpstene (67-71 = 138 | -6) leads the 84-player field by one swing over teammate Ben Woodruff (-5). Four of Charlotte's seven competitors, sit inside the Top-7 on the individual leaderboard.
