'Cats Off to Solid Start at NCAA Tallahassee Regional
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Davidson, the 2021 Atlantic 10 Champions, continued its impressive play as the Wildcats opened the NCAA Men's Golf Tallahassee Regional Monday with an even-par 288 to sit tied for sixth.
With just the Top-5 teams advancing to the National Championships, Davidson is just three strokes outside the cut line, while only being five shots behind Liberty, which is currently third with 36 holes to play.
The host Seminoles fired a 17-under 271 to grab the lead by six over conference-foe Georgia Tech (-11).
Kieran Vincent of Liberty sits atop the 75-player field at 7-under par.
Making its second NCAA Regional appearance in four years, Davidson was led by sophomore Brian Garrett, who currently stands T-19th, following a one-under 71.
Fellow all-conference selection Viraj Garewal (T-27th) finished day one with six birdies, six pars and six bogeys to sign for an even par 72.
Freshman Alex Heffner also shot 72, while Clayton Tribus and Alex Ross carded scores of 73 and 75, respectively.
Tomorrow's second round will begin at 8:30 a.m. The Wildcats will be paired with Indiana and TCU beginning at 9:25 a.m. off the first tee.
About the 2021 NCAA Men's Golf Championships
Regional play for the 2021 Division I Men's Golf Championships will be held May 17-19, with play taking place at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., hosted by Ball State; Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., hosted by Florida State; Championship Course at UNM in Albuquerque, N.M., hosted by New Mexico; Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma State; Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn., hosted by Vanderbilt; and Tumble Creek Golf; Country Club in Cle Elum, Wash., hosted by Washington.
Three of the six regional sites will have 13 teams and 10 individuals competing, while three will have 14 teams and five individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional site (six individuals total) will advance to the national championships at Grayhawk.
