Moving Day: ‘Cats Grab A-10 Lead with 12-Under Second Round

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Davidson, which entered the day 11 strokes off the pace, fired a tournament-low 12-under 276 to grab a five-stroke advantage after two rounds of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship.
The three-day/54-hole event is being played on the 7,186-yard, Par 72 Reunion Golf Club Nicklaus layout.
After opening with a 296 Friday, the Wildcats (-4) bounced back with their second lowest team total of the spring, bettering their first-round score by 20 shots, thanks to a combined 24 birdies and one eagle.
The 'Cats, who captured the 2018 title and finished runner-up a year later, will enter the final day five ahead of Rhode Island (+1) and eight clear of round one leader Dayton (+4). VCU (+5) carded a 6-under 282 to remain in fourth, while St. Bonaventure and George Mason round out the Top-5
Four Davidson players signed for sub-par rounds, including junior Viraj Garewal (78-68 = 146), who led the way with a 4-under 68 to move into a tie for 10th.
The 2019 A-10 Rookie of the Year is joined in the Top-10 by teammates Clayton Tribus (-1 | T-3rd), Alex Ross (E | 6th) and Alex Heffner (+1 | T-7th).
Like Garewal, sophomore Brian Garrett (+3 | T-14th) posted a 78 Friday, but responded in a big way this afternoon with a 69.
The Wildcats will be paired with Rhode Island, Dayton and VCU in Sunday's third and final round with tee times beginning at 10:20 a.m. off the first hole.
Rhode Island's Chris Francoeur (-5) holds the individual lead by two shots over Henry May (Dayton). Tribus is four back, while Ross in only five back following his season low.
