KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Freshman Alex Heffner is just three strokes off the lead and Davidson is currently in third place following day one of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship.
The three-day/54-hole event is being played on the 7,186-yard, Par 72 Reunion Golf Club Nicklaus layout.
A native of Harrisburg, N.C., Heffner played holes 6-15 in 4-under before signing for his fifth sub-par round of the spring. Coming off a career-best 66 in his last round, Heffner will enter day two trailing only Dayton's Henry May (-5).
The Flyers (-3) were eight strokes better than the 10-team field Friday after recording a 285. Rhode Island (+5) is in second ahead of Davidson (+8), which dropped a few shots down the stretch to shoot 296.
The Wildcats will be paired with Dayton and the Rams in Saturday's second round with tee times being announced later this evening.
Live scoring will be available each day on GolfStat.com.
Thanks to four birdies, junior Clayton Tribus turned in a one-over 73 and is currently ninth out of 51 individual competitors.
Alex Ross (T-17) also sits inside the Top-25 following a 75, while teammates Viraj Garewal and Brian Garrett each shot 78.
