Heffner Finishes T-4th to Lead ‘Cats at Irish Creek

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – For the second consecutive round, Davidson's Alex Heffner (74-68-70 = 212 | -1) carded a sub-par score to finish tied for fourth at the 2021 Irish Creek Intercollegiate hosted by the Wildcats and cross-county rival Charlotte.
As a team, Davidson posted a 54-hole total of 874 to record its second straight Top-10 showing as the 'Cats placed tied for seventh out of 15 teams.
Heffner, a freshman from Harrisburg, N.C., finished the annual event with a team-best 14 birdies en route to the best finish of his young collegiate career.
Brian Garrett (219 | T-26), Viraj Garewal (221 | T-33), Clayton Tribus (229 | T-69) and Alex Ross (230 | T-72) were also in the Davidson lineup this weekend, while Ben Moreland (226 | T-59), Ethan Hall (234 | 79th), Dean Naime (240 | 82nd) and Cole Walter (1242 | 83rd) competed as individuals.
UNCW (-7), which entered the final round with a six-shot advantage, fired a 9-under 275 Saturday to claim the team title by 16 over VCU.
After shooting 64 in Friday's second round, the Seahawks' Sander Akeren (-14) signed for a 6-under 65 on his last 18 to capture individual medalist by 10 swings over teammate Blake McShea (-4).
