GENEVA, OHIO — Three silver medals and program records highlighted Davidson's second day at the Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Freestyler Ian Brann, diver Daniel Valmassei and the 200 free relay team all placed second Thursday and set new Davidson marks.
"We had some great swims from the men today," said coach John Young. "Obviously Ian's record-breaking 50 is a fantastic swim. Jared Herr followed this morning's really well-crafted 500 with another well-swum race tonight. What really stands out to me is the contributions from the seniors across the lineup —. Mitchell Stanek, Daniel, three-quarters of the relay that nearly grabbed a huge upset win. This is not the spring they expected, but they're making the best of their bonus time with the team. It's fun to see."
Valmassei broke his own one-meter record during the diving session at George Mason. His 312.60 score eclipsed his mark from last year's championships by nearly two points.
Brann, a freshman, paced the 50 freestyle field with a school-record time of 20.15 and led a pack of Wildcats in the event. Kilian Quinn took seventh with a time of 20.75, while Kevin Andrews was 11th, Jacob Jung 12th and Graham Harris 15th to produce 42 points.
Brann, Andrews, Jung and Quinn combined to take second in the 200 free relay with a Davidson record time of 1:20.73.
Other notable performances Thursday came from Herr in the 500 free (11th), Stanek in the 200 individual medley (13th) and Cael McLaren, who swam to 16th in the 200 IM after winning a preliminary swim-off.
