NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the third time this season, Julianne Carey and Amanda Monahan have headlined the Atlantic 10's weekly lacrosse awards, earning the league's Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
This is Monahan's third defensive honor this season, while Carey has been named the A-10's Rookie of the Week for the seventh time. With this week's award, Carey has officially captured more weekly conference honors than any other freshman in Atlantic 10 lacrosse history.
A Marblehead, Massachusetts native, Monahan led the 'Cats in cage to a 2-0 weekend. The sophomore stopped 14 shots, including 12 saves during a 15-9 victory against VCU on Friday night. With the win against the Rams, Davidson defeated its Atlantic 10 foe for the first time since 2017 and remains undefeated in league play.
On the attack, Carey recorded three points off two goals and one assist over the weekend. The Pennsylvania native had one goal and an assist in Friday night's win over VCU and was crucial in second half draw controls, as the rookie grabbed seven draws, ultimately finishing with the game-high and her career-high in draw controls.
Carey, Monahan and the rest of the Wildcats will be back in action for their final home game on Friday night, taking on George Washington at 5:30 p.m. from Richardson Stadium.
