Heffner Records Ace, ‘Cats Fire Season-Low in Final Round

RALEIGH, N.C. – Highlighted by Alex Heffner's ace on the 12th hole, Davidson fired a season-low 14-under 274 in the final round of the 2021 Stitch Intercollegiate hosted by NC State.
The two-day/54-hole event was played on the 6,973-yard, Par 72 MacGregor Downs Country Club layout.
In addition to the host Wolfpack (-51), who claimed the tournament crown by 12 strokes over conference foe Notre Dame, the 12-team tournament field featured three teams ranked inside the Top-40 nationally.
A freshman from Harrisburg, N.C., Heffner recorded his third career hole-in-one with a 5-iron on the 205-yard Par 3. One of four Wildcats to post sub-par rounds, he also rolled in six birdies to card a six-under 66.
As a team, Davidson (-11 | 853) made 27 birdies and 2 eagles today en route to its third straight Top-10 showing.
Sophomore Brian Garrett (214 | T-34) was just as impressive for Davidson on Saturday shooting a career-low 67 to finish at 2-under overall.
Viraj Garewal (71-71-70 = 212 | T-25) and Alex Ross (74-71-71 = 216 | T-41) also signed for rounds under par, while Clayton Tribus (80-71-72 = 223 | T-59) was even on the day.
Ranked 31st by GolfStat, Campbell's Pontus Nyholm took home individual medalist thanks to a 10-under 62 on his final 18. Nyholm concluded the annual event at 199 (-17), three shots clear of the next competitor.

After three tournaments in less than two weeks, Davidson will enjoy a 20-day break from action before taking part in the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship April 30 – May 2.
