Slow Start Rattles 'Cats in Loss to Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Davidson lacrosse team's four-game win streak ended this afternoon, as the 'Cats scored a season-low of seven goals in a 12-7 loss to Coastal Carolina.
Davidson's offense looked like it would gain momentum early, with Sam Rippley knotting two goals in the first two minutes of the game. However, over the next 28 minutes of work, the Wildcats would record just one more goal, compared to nine for the Chanticleers, as the home team never trailed for the remainder of the match.
Despite the slow start, the Wildcats did bounce back in the second half, with Davidson outscoring Coastal Carolina 4-3 over the final 30 minutes of play. Freshman Julianne Carey started off the second frame with an unassisted goal and recorded her second of the day five minutes later, on a man-up opportunity from a Gianna New assist. Carey and Jane DiGregorio would exchange two more goals during the last two minutes of the contest, but the first half damage allowed the Chanticleers to cruise to a 12-7 non-conference victory.
Coastal Carolina out-shot the 'Cats just 21-18 in shots on goal, while both teams were tied up with 10 draw controls apiece. The Wildcats matched their season-best 15-of-17 on clear attempts and collected 15 ground balls as a team.
Davidson will return to play next weekend for another non-conference match up in Winthrop University from Rock Hill, S.C. Game time is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
