Field Hockey Tops Saint Louis 3-1 in A-10 Opener
3/13/2021 2:45:00 PM | Field Hockey
Davidson scored twice in the third quarter and won its Atlantic 10 field hockey opener 3-1 over Saint Louis Saturday at Belk Turf Field.
The Wildcats are now 2-2 overall after what head coach Zoe Almquist called "a great team win."
"With three different goal scorers on three different types of goals, I think it showed a balanced attack," she said. "It was good to get out to an early lead and then hold onto that lead. Our defensive unit came up big down the stretch to help us make that possible. It feels good to step out on a positive start to A-10 play, and we are already looking forward to what's next."
Nellie Turnage gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 11:45 mark of the second quarter, and Davidson added to that lead shortly after the intermission. Amy Worscheh finished from in front of the cage, on an assist from Anna Sharp, to make it 2-0.
The Billikens quickly answered, though, cutting it to 2-1 on an Emily Wastell goal less than a minute later. But Davidson responded when Izzy Moody was there to follow-up a saved Corynne Hammit shot to make it 3-1 in the 37th minute.
