Pearson, Gordon Sniffen Led Men's XC at Richmond Winter XC Invite

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The Davidson men's cross country team toed the line and entered the finishing chute for the first time since the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional Meet Friday at the Richmond Winter XC Invite at Pole Green Park.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was a familiar face, junior Max Pearson. Pearson went back and forth with sophomore teammate Ben Gordon Sniffen in the final mile to place eighth, stopping the clock over the 8,000-meter course in 25:27.7. Gordon Sniffen entered the chute in 25:32.2.
Davidson placed third as a squad, registering 61 points. Richmond won their home meet (24), while George Mason placed second of the three with 41 points.
"We had a very solid opener. The guys have been working hard and have been patient, waiting for the chance to compete. So to get out here and mix it up was a lot of fun," said Director of Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Renny Waldron.
Sophomore Joe dos Reis made his long-awaited Wildcat debut, placing 12th with a time of 26:00.4. Junior Alex Ackerman placed among the top-20, while senior Iain Anderson was the final 'Cat across the line.
"It's great to see the sophomores making the jump; they have been putting in the work building up their aerobic base and it shows. Fantastic to see Ben Gordon Sniffen right up their with Max. Joe dos Reis continues to be a model of resilience; this was his first race in college, having had to battle some injuries, and today he lost his shoe at 2k and didn't miss a beat, just kept on racing tough and pushing forward."
Davidson returns to the trails Friday, Mar. 5 at the Atlantic 10 Championship, back at Pole Green Park.
