Drometer Paces Davidson, Makes All-A-10 Team at XC Championships
3/5/2021 3:33:00 PM | Men's Cross Country
Drometer put himself in a good position early, hanging among the top 10 runners of the initial split in the pack. The second-year Davidson runner finished 14th with a time of 24:54.1. A non-scorer at the 2019 champs, Drometer improved 61 spots overall in his second championship run.
The 'Cats placed 9th as a team, recording 248 points. Host Richmond won the title with 44 points, just ahead of pre-race favorite La Salle (53). La Salle's Luke Jaciw-Zurakowsky won the individual crown.
"It's been great to see the improvement the guys have made over the season," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Renny Waldron. "Obviously it's tough to be without some key guys at the championship, but they made the best of it and ran tough. Owen and Ben [Gordon Sniffen] have really made the jump and it was great to see Owen make the All-Conference Team."
Gordon Sniffen was the second 'Cat to enter the finishing chute after traversing the 8,000m course in 25:36.0. Senior Iain Anderson (60th), junior Alex Ackerman (80th) and junior George Lewis (92nd) rounded out the Davidson scoring contingent.
"Senior Iain Anderson ran his heart out today; he improved over a minute since his race on this course a month ago. We are going to miss him a lot next year. He has been a joy to coach and been an excellent teammate, friend and scholar-athlete during his time at Davidson. Thankfully we still have him for outdoor season!"
The distance squad joins the rest of the Davidson track and field team Friday, Mar. 19 on the first day of the Charlotte 49er Classic.
