Solares Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Davidson freshman Alejandro Solares has been named the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, for his stellar start to his young Wildcat career.
Hailing from Guatemala City, Guatemala, Solares has gone 2-3 through his first five singles matches of the season. Picking up a three-set win over Elon and a two-set clincher against Campbell, Davidson's rookie has moved his way up from the No. 6 singles court to now competing at slot five.
Most notably, Solares, and his fellow freshman doubles partner Maxwell Kachkarov, have gone 2-2 in doubles matches, and have now become Davidson's No. 1 doubles unit over the past five weeks. Solares and Kachkarov picked up wins against Elon and Campbell, and were winning 5-2 against Virginia Tech last weekend, before the Hokies had clinched the doubles point from the other two courts and ended the court one match early.
Solares and the rest of the Davidson Wildcats will return to the court this weekend to take on NC A&T on Saturday at 2 p.m.
