‘Cats Off to Solid Start at Mobile Bay Collegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Viraj Garewal and Brian Garrett recorded rounds of one-under 71 to pace Davidson, which sits in seventh just six shots out of the Top-5, following day one of the 2021 Mobile Bay Collegiate at Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
Playing in their season opener, the Wildcats tallied a one-over 289 and is just two back of Kansas State (-1 | 286).
The 14-team/54-hole event hosted by South Alabama, also features UAB, Indiana, Texas State, Illinois State, Toledo, Illinois, Kansas State, Kent State, Lipscomb, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky and Michigan.
Picked to finish second in the league's preseason poll, Davidson will be paired with Toledo and Western Kentucky in Monday's second round. The Wildcats will tee off between 8 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. off the 10th tee.

Illinois fired a 14-under 274 to grab the top spot on the team leaderboard, five clear of Kent State and six ahead of Louisville. UAB (-6) and Indiana (-5) round out the Top-5 as six teams in all posted sub-par totals on day one.
Yannick Schuetz of Kent State and Illinois' duo of Michael Feagles and Adrien Dumont de Chassart lead the 86-competitor field by one after shooting rounds of 67.

Davidson will enjoy a two-week break before heading to Historic Pinehurst No. 2 for the Wake Forest Invitational March 1-2.
