Late Goals Lift UMass over Wildcats, 3-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Filipo Begliardi Ghidini scored with just under five minutes remaining to lift UMass over Davidson, 3-2, in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Stadium.
The setback drops the Wildcats to 7-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play, while the Minutemen improve to 8-3-2 and 2-2-1.
Trailing 2-1 after the Minutemen went back in front in the 82nd minute on a goal from Alec Hughes, Davidson equalized off a long free kick from Henry Howell less than two minutes later.
Before the two teams combined for three scores over a four-minute span, neither team had really threatened since Even Fournier tied the score 1-1 midway through the opening half.
Connor Smith put the Wildcats in front 15:15 into match with a beautiful header off a Nicholas Cavallo cross from the near side.
UMass finished with a 9-8 edge in shots, while Davidson held an 8-6 margin in corners.
Both keepers stopped a pair of attempts.

Davidson will close out its home slate Wednesday when Dayton visits for a 7 p.m. tilt.
