‘Cats and Flyers Battle to Midweek Draw

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson and Dayton battled to a 2-2 (2OT) draw in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Wednesday evening inside Alumni Stadium.
Each team picks up a point in the league standings as the Wildcats move to 7-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play, while the Flyers are now 5-7-3 and 2-3-1.
After threatening early with a number of scoring chances, including a Lucas Hauth attempt that hit the post, Davidson finally broke through in the 31st minute with a goal from Connor Smith.
His fifth score of the 2021 campaign came off a Nicholas Cavallo corner kick that was headed back to Smith at the top of the six-yard box by fellow midfielder Mateo Alzate.
Not long after the 'Cats grabbed the lead, the Flyers leveled the match with a penalty kick from Kingsford Adjei.
Early in the second half, Davidson went back in front when Alzate came up with a Dayton miscue and connected with Hauth, who ripped a shot just inside the left post for his 16th career goal.
Just as they did in the opening period, the Flyers wasted little time equalizing as Andy Sanchez played it through to Forster Ajago just shy of midfield catching Davidson's keeper off his line leaving an open net.
The Wildcats finished with a 17-16 edge in shots, while Giacomo Piccardo led both keepers with six stops.
