NORMAN, Okla. – Davidson's Viraj Garewal, Dean Naime, Alex Ross and Clayton Tribus have been named 2019-20 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, as announced by the GCAA Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and in NAIA, 79.0 in Division III and 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
"I'm very proud of Viraj, Dean, Alex and Clayton for their commitment to academics and golf," said two-time A-10 Coach of the Year Tim Straub. "This honor shows how well they balance the rigors of Division I golf and the challenge of Davidson College."
Prior to this year, Davidson had never placed more than three student-athletes on the same academic All-America team.
Since 1997, 16 different Wildcats have received this honor, including Jack Lang, David Sargent, Todd Eckstein, Tim Dillon, Alex Knoll, Steve Mayo and John Skeadas, all of which earned the distinction twice.
Despite its season being cut short due to COVID-19, Davidson posted four Top-5 and two runner-up finishes in 2019-20.
