Deegan Caps Regular Season with 7th Rookie of the Week Honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Freshman Suzi-Rose Deegan capped off a stellar regular season by earning her seventh Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award for women's basketball, as announced today by the league office for games played from February 24-29.
Deegan's seven rookie of the week honors is a program best, while the program has 15 overall since Davidson joined the A-10. The award also gives the Wildcats eight total weekly honors this year.
The shooting guard from Marmion, Australia, averaged a double-double last week against La Salle and VCU. She had averages of 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and hitting 5-of-6 free throws.
In an overtime win at La Salle, Deegan had game-highs of 25 points and 15 rebounds, a new season-high, and hit 11-of-22 shots to go with an assist and a steal. The double-double was her team-leading sixth of the season. She registered nine points in the fourth quarter and overtime, including five in OT. Of her 15 rebounds, six of them came on offense, also a new season-best.
She followed up against VCU by pacing all players in points and rebounds, scoring 17 and hauling in seven boards.
The two double-digit scoring games gave Deegan a team-high 21 on the season, while her 20-point outing was her sixth of the season. The freshman ended the regular season pacing the team in scoring 15 times, 11 times in rebounding and eight times overall in both in the same game.
Davidson will host the first round of the A-10 Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday, taking on 10th-seeded La Salle at 7 p.m.
