Ross and Garewal Inside Top-10; ‘Cats T-4th After Day One in Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Davidson's Alex Ross sits seventh individually and teammate Viraj Garewal is one back in eighth, while the Wildcats are in a three-way tie for fourth after day one of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate.
The two-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,052-yard Fort Lauderdale Country Club layout.
Ranked third nationally at the Division II level, Lynn (-21) leads the 15-team field by 16 strokes over host Loyola (Md.). Florida Atlantic is alone in third at 4-under followed by the Wildcats (286-287 = 573 | -3), No. 40 South Florida (-3) and Western Carolina.
Coming off his first collegiate win, Ross (140 | -4) opened with a 4-under 68, highlighted by an eagle on the 14th hole before shooting a 72 on his afternoon round.
After opening with a 73, Garewal (141 | -3) bounced back with an eagle and six birdies in round two to fire a 68 of his own.
Brian Garrett, who shared the individual crown with Ross last week in Hilton Head, also sits inside the Top-25 with a 36-hole total of 145 (+1).
Sophomore Clayton Tribus (+4 | T-36) and freshman Ethan Hall (+7 | T-51) are also back in the lineup for the Wildcats.
Lynn's Carlos Bustos (-10) leads the 78-player field by a swing over Evan Brown (-9) of Loyola.
