Deegan Wins Again, Claims Sixth A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Freshman Suzi-Rose Deegan claimed her sixth weekly award when the Atlantic 10 announced today she was the league's Rookie of the Week for women's basketball in games played from Jan. 27-Feb. 2.
Deegan's six A-10 Rookie of the Week honors is the most by a Wildcat and it was 14th overall rookie honor the program has collected since joining in 2014-15.
The shooting guard excelled in games at Rhode Island and home vs. UMass last week by averaging team bests of 21.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor. Deegan also swished home 6-of-8 free throws, dished out nine assists, and pocketed a couple steals for the week.
Deegan started the week with her fifth double-double in a road win vs. the Rams with 25 points (16 in the second half) and 11 rebounds, while dishing out a season-best six dimes. She hit 10-of-16 shots from the floor, the fourth time this year with 10 or more made field goals in a game.
Then in a home game vs. the Minutewomen this past Sunday, Feb. 2, Deegan hit 7-of-17 shots, including three from downtown, on her way to a team-best 18 points. She also added five rebounds and dished out three assists with a steal.
The pair of double-figure scoring games pushed Deegan's total to a team-high 17 as she has scored in double-digits in 16 of the past 18 games overall. The 20-point outing at URI was Deegan's fifth of the season as well.
Davidson (13-8, 6-2 A-10) will look to rebound from its setback vs. UMass last Sunday by hosting Atlantic 10 leader Dayton (15-7, 8-0 A-10), which has won its past 10 straight on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
