KINGSTON, R.I. – Junior Eleni Daughters won her first Atlantic 10 title, snapping the tape in the 1,000-meters Sunday in the final day of the A-10 Indoor Championship.
Daughters outlasted VCU senior Ashley Brown in the final lap to win the 1k in 2:51.03. Her performance also broke her own school record, previously set on the banked track at the BU Terrier Classic (2:51.96).
Davidson finished eighth of 13 teams at the 2020 edition of the A-10 Indoor Championship, recording 40.5 points. Massachusetts claimed the team title with 120.5 points, followed by VCU (107) and Rhode Island (103.5).
"I am extremely proud of the entire team as we are in a building phase! Everyone stepped up to the plate and we scored points in events that we hadn't done so in the past," said director of women's track and field and cross country, Jen Straub. "Coach Vahrenkamp and Coach Doyle did a great job preparing their athletes for the competition. And of course, we are so happy for Leni Daughters, who won the 1000-meter championship! Our pentathletes went 3,4,5, so that was very exciting. We look forward to building upon this success as we go into the outdoor season."
Sophomore Bianca Nolde-Lopez and freshman Rachel Horowitz placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meters. Nolde-Lopez stopped the clock in 57.53 seconds, Horowitz in 57.79.
Junior Grace Loehr took seventh in the 500-meter finals, crossing the line in 1:16.57. Freshman Hannah Kanjian cleared 1.60-meters (5'3) in the high jump to take seventh.
In the relays, Davidson took fifth in the 4x800-meter relay, covering the 3200 meters in 9:13.22. The Wildcats ended the meet with a 3:55.09 performance in the 4x400-meter relay.
On Saturday, senior Makayla Binter improved her school record in the pentathlon, earning 3,478 points and stepped onto the podium in third. Sophomore teammate Hazel Tankard and freshman Hannah Kanjian placed fourth and fifth, respectively, each breaking Binter's former record.
The distance medley relay claimed the final scoring spot, racing the baton around the track in 12:12.67.
Davidson takes a few weeks off before heading outdoors for the Charlotte 49er Classic. The first day of the two-day meet begins on Friday, Mar. 20.
