NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Senior Alexandra Abele collected Davidson women's tennis' first weekly Atlantic 10 award when she was named the league's Player of the Week on Tuesday for matches played from Feb. 17-23. Abele shared the award this week with Rhode Island's Halah Davis.
The senior won her third career player of the week award and pushed her career weekly total to eight after taking home the A-10 Rookie of the Week five times in 2017.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Abele continued her winning ways by going to 2-0 in singles last week in matches vs. College of Charleston and at Charleston Southern, Feb. 21 & 23. With the two wins last week, she pushed her singles winning streak to a season-high six straight, all at the No. 1 position, and improved her season record to 6-2.
Abele helped the 'Cats to a team victory against CofC with a strong 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1. She then followed that up by getting one of three team points for Davidson against CSU, coming from a set down to score a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at the top spot.
Davidson will take a little break until facing A-10 foe Duquesne, March 3, in a neutral site match in Charleston, S.C.
