
Two School Records and PR's Highlight the Men's Trip to Boston

BOSTON – Men's track and field's Daniel Alvarez and Raphael Oettl lowered their school records in the 800 and 1,000-meter runs, respectively, Saturday at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Utilizing the fast field and banked surface of the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, Alvarez reset his program-best mark of the indoor half mile, stopping the clock in 1:50.19. The Dobson, N.C., native cut less than a second off his previous best, 1:50.84, set at the BU Terrier Classic. Alvarez finished sixth in his section, but 11th overall.
Alvarez wasn't done yet, returning to run a 1:05.12 in the 500-meter run and another top-20 placing for the Wildcat. Classmate Max Higgins stopped the clock in the event in 1:09.67.
Oettl notched the second record-breaking performance of the day in the 1k, lowering his own mark to 2:27.75. His previous best of 2:28. 33 was set at the 2019 Valentine Invite.
Freshman Ben Gordon Sniffen registered a new personal best in the 1k, stopping the clock in 2:28.16, as did classmate Miles Kominsky in 2:31.02.
A pair of Wildcat milers posted PR's led by freshman Owen Drometer's 4:12.79 performance. Sophomore Max Pearson lowered his benchmark by over five seconds, stopping the clock in 4:14.01.
Sophomore Jonah Lane kept the PR train rolling in the 800m, stopping the clock in 1:55.02, while classmate Colin Ross crossed the line in the 3,000-meter at 8:24.12.
Freshman Jack McMahon ran close to home in the evening's final attempt, the 5,000-meter run. The Warwick, R.I., native stopped the clock in 14:41.81 to wrap up the meet for the 'Cats.
The men next see the track Saturday, Feb. 29 on the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Championship at Mackal Fieldhouse hosted by the University of Rhode Island. The indoor championship runs through Sunday, Mar. 1.
