NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Freshman divers Drew Sheldon and Liz Goei have swept this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Sheldon and Goei have continued to impress diving coach Greg Ferrucci with their progress this season.
"When they arrived on campus, their energy was fantastic and contagious," said Ferrucci. "They were eager to get started with practice, and had an incredible amount of enthusiasm. I could not be more proud as I observe them grow, not just as student-athletes, but as mature and bright young individuals."
Competing at James Madison's Duke Dog Invitational, Sheldon placed fifth in the three-meter competition with 228.35 points and sixth in the one-meter with 224 points. Goei scored 234.75 to take ninth in the three-meter.
Both have overcome some setbacks and growing pains in their first year — Goei has battled injuries, and Sheldon has an entirely new list of dives on three-meter — but Ferrucci has liked what he's seen from them. He's confident in them going forward, at next week's conference meet and beyond.
"I am excited for their future here at Davidson, and know they will make great leaders to our incoming freshmen next year," he said.
