DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson played East Tennessee State Saturday in its home opener, falling to the Bucs 6-1 in women's tennis inside the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.

ETSU (1-1) took the doubles point and then captured five of the six singles spots for the team win, though the Wildcats battled to the end by forcing a pair of three setters and a super tie-breaker.

The doubles team of Josie Schaffer and Alyssa Hahn won their first together on the season with a 6-2 decision at No. 3. The Bucs took the other two doubles spots by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2. It was freshman Schaffer's first career doubles win.

In singles play, freshman Emma Heiderscheit earned her first collegiate win by pulling out a 10-5 super tie-breaker after splitting her first two sets, 5-7 and 7-5 at No. 5.

Two other matches went to a third set at No. 2 and 3 positions, with Elizabeth Truluck winning her first set 6-2 only to drop the next two, 6-4 and 6-1, at No. 2. Samantha Armas also won her first set with a 7-5 decision, but her ETSU opponent took wins of 6-4 and 6-1 in the next two sets to pull out the win at No. 3.

Davidson (0-2) looks to get its first win tomorrow, Jan. 26, when it hosts Queens University from just down the road in Charlotte. The match time is set for 2 p.m.
