DAVIDSON — The Davidson volleyball team will add four members to the team next fall, head coach Chris Willis announced Thursday.
The class of 2024 includes Bella Brady, Jessie Doyal, Sophia Hritz and Sola Omonije, who are set to graduate from high school this spring.
"The class of 2024 will have an immediate and long-term impact on our program," said Willis, who just completed his ninth Davidson season. "Each one of the incoming scholar-athletes fits with the culture of our college and volleyball program. I look forward to experiencing their contributions over the next four years."
• Bella Brady | Libero/DS | Winter Park, Fla.
Brady, out of Trinity Prep School, is a four-year varsity player and two-year team captain, who helped her team win 20 matches and a district title as a senior. She set school records for digs in a match (50), season (667) and career (1,767) and also competed in track. Brady earned three all-county honors and was a two-time recipient of the school's Saints Award. She plays on the club circuit for the Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy (OTVA).
Willis: "Sometimes it's difficult to grab a coach's attention as a libero. Isabella's ability to infuse the court with energy and dynamic play attracted us to her immediately. Liberos rarely stand out during a match, but I think people will leave our gym remembering what the libero did that day."
• Jessie Doyal | Setter | Peachtree City, Ga.
Out of Georgia's McIntosh High, Doyal helped the Chiefs win three straight GHSA 5A state titles and reach four state finals. A two-year team captain, she twice earned all-state recognition and garnered three all-region awards. She totaled 932 assists as a senior and 1,922 in her prep career and also finished with 502 digs and 594 kills.
Willis: "Jessie is a pure setter who will make our offense better. She developed her talents in one of the top clubs in the country (A5), and her skill set will translate immediately to the college level. I anticipate that our attackers will love playing with Jessie."
• Sophia Hritz | Libero/DS | Sarasota, Fla.
Hritz is a four-year varsity player from Cardinal Mooney High, where as a senior team captain, she helped the Cougars win the 2019 FHSAA 3A state championship. She finished her senior year with 224 kills and 273 digs and her last two seasons, had 552 kills, 56 blocks, 538 digs and 62 aces. She, like Brady, plays club volleyball for OTVA, though the two future Wildcats are on different teams.
Willis: "Sophia is a Swiss Army knife on the court. She has ball control, athleticism and a high volleyball IQ that will get her on the court throughout the year. I look forward to seeing Sophia's amazing focus and work ethic accelerate her learning curve and contribute to our success."
• Sola Omonije | Middle Blocker | The Colony, Texas
A six-footer with the talent and ability to finish, Omonije is coming off an injury that caused her to miss her senior year at Greenhill School. As a junior, she was a team captain and MVP, and she earned all-conference honors in volleyball and track for three seasons. Omonije plays for one of the top clubs in Dallas, the Skyline Juniors.
Willis: "Sola brings a 'wow' factor to this class. Her ability to attack and block will give us another scoring option we're looking for. I can't wait to work with Sola every day and see her progress into the dynamic player she'll eventually become." From left: Sophia Hritz, Jessie Doyal, Bella Brady, Sola Omonije
