Shepherd Leads 'Cats Against UNCW

WILMINGTON — Sarah Helen Shepherd won three individual events, and contributed to a relay win, as the Davidson swimming and diving teams returned to competition Saturday at UNC Wilmington.
Shepherd took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.83), the 200 backstroke (2:04.18) and the 400 individual medley (4:29.28) to help the Wildcat women keep it close with the Seahawks, who ultimately posted a 164-136 win.
Shepherd also joined Julia Goodhead, Shelby Stanley and Abby Francis on the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.25).
Stanley posted two wins, sweeping the butterfly events. She won the 100 fly in 56.06 and the 200 fly in 2:06.52 and also finished second to Shepherd in the 400 IM.
Siena Senn won the 500 free in 5:08.64, and Hannah Gould touched the wall first in the 200 breast (2:25.33), while also following Shepherd in a 1-2 Wildcat finish in the 100 breast.
Brian Hynes finished tied for first in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.14 to highlight the Davidson men's performance, while Daniel Valmassei finished second among six divers in both the 1- and 3-meter events.
UNCW earned a 206.5-89.5 win in men's scoring.
