KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Highlighted by a pair of 5-under 66s, former Davidson standout Sam Echikson '14 fired a 54-hole total of 203 (-10) to win the 26th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship Sunday afternoon.
The three-day event was played on the Par 71, 7,099-yard Club at Irish Creek layout.
Trailing by five strokes entering the final round, Echikson made the turn in four-under 31, highlighted by an eagle on the short Par 4 fifth hole. On his inward nine, the 2013 all-conference performer was steady with a birdie and eight pars to edge Bobby Dean (-9).
A native of Belgium, Echikson advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Charlotte Country Club a year ago.
