Men's XC Takes 3rd in Season Opener and Earns Regional Ranking

CARY, N.C. –The Davidson men's cross country team opened the 2019 campaign with a third place result at the adidas XC Challenge Friday evening and in doing so, moved into the USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Rankings, announced by the association Monday.
The 'Cats scoring contingent consisted of five sophomores led by Colin Ross. The Niskayuna, N.Y., native traversed the 6k cross country course in 18:36.1, just ahead of classmates George Lewis (18:38.0) and Max Pearson (18:45.2).
"I thought the guys ran really well. Definitely a good start to the season. We are looking forward to seeing improvement each time out, and I know the guys are looking forward to seeing what we can do with the full 8k distance next time we race at Louisville," said Director of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field, Renny Waldron.
Rounding out the 'Cats scoring was Raphael Oettl in 26th and Trent Turbyfill in 29th. Coleman Mitchell was next to enter the finishing chute, making it six straight Wildcat sophomores finishers.
Davidson registered 95 points to take third of 10 teams. Michigan won the meet overall ahead of host NC State in second.
For their efforts, Davidson earned the 14th spot in the NCAA Southeast Region in Monday's rankings. The 'Cats are among five Atlantic 10 teams represented and include Dayton in the Great Lakes Region and La Salle, Saint Joseph's and George Washington in the Mid-Atlantic.
Davidson returns to the trails Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Greater Louisville Classic.
